Rand D. Leach

On July 19, 2019 Rand David Leach, of Traverse City, passed away after a hard-fought battle with pancreatic cancer while surrounded by many of those whom he loved.
He was reunited with his beloved son, Ryan Thomas; his parents, Jerry and Bonnie; as well as his nephew, Kevin James Leach. All were waiting to welcome him home to God's kingdom.
Rand was born in Cadillac on April 14, 1958 he graduated from Cadillac high school then went on to earn his associate's degree at Northwestern Michigan College.
Rand was a true Renaissance man with a love of all the arts, especially music. He loved sports, spending many evenings watching his beloved Tigers with his best friend and twin, Rick.
Rand is survived by his son, Brandon, who with Rick spent the last six months tirelessly at his father's side. He also leaves behind his adorable grandson, Haakon, of whom he was so proud; as well as his four brothers, Greg (Mari Alaina), Kelly (Sheri), Shane (Nancy) and twin brother, Rick (Kelly Towner); several nieces and nephews, including Erin Noelle, whom he referred to as his sister/niece; his uncle, Tom (Chicki) Brooks; aunt, Vicki Johnson; many cousins; and numerous good friends.
Rand had just started a new journey as a peer support specialist at CMH, a job that was created with Rand's abilities in mind, a perfect fit for him. The work allowed him to share the love and kindness that he so freely gave to anyone who crossed his path.
No one had the ability to listen without judgment and with an open heart like Rand, no matter the place or time of day. When you spoke to him, you knew that he was listening. He was a gifted man, an authentic human being and a beautiful person who will be greatly missed.
Ryan's Mutant Ninja Towboys will be retiring this year after an impressive 20-year career into the fantasy football Hall of Fame.
Rand's funeral will take place at Reynolds Jonkoff Funeral Home, 305 Sixth Street, Traverse City, on Aug. 2 at 11 a.m., with visitation with the family an hour before. Please join us for a picnic lunch immediately following the service at Cherrybend Community Park, 10090 Cherrybend Road, Traverse City.

To Rand’s family, especially Rick. I have not been able to reach the depth of grief I am holding inside over Rand’s illness and passing. Time I spent with Rand was always special, and those are the memories I hold onto. This picture is how I will always remember him (with Brandon, the son he was so proud of.)
I am sorry I was unable to attend the memorial. I can now only hold onto the knowledge that I will see him again, just as he told me he would be reunited with Ryan, as I am sure he is. I will continue to visit Ryan’s grave, just as Rand and I did. Much love to Rand’s family, especially Rick. A unique light has left our world. Kathy

Rand’s passing is a huge loss to all those that loved him here on earth. Heaven is dancing as I can hear him playing some Joe Bonamassa and sharing his love of music. Can you picture it? I can.
