TRAVERSE CITY — Robert “Bob” L. Winnie, 82, of Traverse City, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 6, 2016 with his loving wife, Ada, at his side. Bob was born on June 10, 1933 in Traverse City to the late Robert Gordon and Opal Frances (Lardie) Winnie. He married Ada Florida Smith on Nov. 23, 1956 in Suttons Bay. Bob honorably served our country in the United States Army. He worked for the City of Traverse City for many dedicated years. In his spare time he loved everything to do with trains and fishing. He especially enjoyed going to Manistee to watch the switching of the railroad cars at the railroad yard. He was even a member of the Railroad Historical Society. Many special memories were made with his family throughout the years. He loved to go fishing with his grandson, Mike. Bob will be remembered as a wonderful husband, father and grandfather and will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Surviving Bob are his wife of 59 wonderful years, Ada; son, Mel (Sherry) Winnie, of South Boardman; grandchildren, Mike (Susan Haskins), of Cornelius, North Carolina, and Shannon (James) Smith, of Kalkaska; great-granddaughter, Lily Mae Smith; brothers-in-law, Owen (Alberta) Smith, of Traverse City, and Arnold (Joan) Smith, of Grand Haven; and cousins, Janis (Chris) Marsh, of Rio Rancho, New Mexico, and Keith (Susan) Lardie, of Sharon. Bob was preceded in death by his parents; uncles and aunts, Mel (Joyce) Lardie and Axel (Nadine) Lardie; and his grandparents, Roy (Florence) Lardie. Funeral services will take place today, March 9, at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home, at 2 p.m., with a visitation held one hour prior.
