FRANKFORT -- Ruth Wesley Pearsall, 98, of Frankfort, died Thursday, April 1, 2010. Ruth was loved and respected by all who knew her. She was born and raised in Detroit, where she met and married Howard Pearsall in 1935. Howard and Ruth shared 62 years of marriage and were blessed with three lovely daughters, Patricia, Marjorie and Virginia. Ruth received a bachelor's degree in Education from Wayne State University and later a master's degree from the University of Michigan in Guidance and Counseling. She served as a teacher and a counselor in the Highland Park School System for many years. In the mid-1970s, at retirement, she and Howard served as volunteers in the United States Peace Corps in Malaysia. Upon concluding their tour, the couple moved to Frankfort, a favorite place where they had spent many happy summers. In Frankfort, Ruth continued her life of deep involvement in many civic and charitable organizations, especially the Frankfort United Methodist Church, Frankfort Garden Club, her P.E.O. chapter, Congregational Summer Assembly and the American Cancer Society. At the time of her death, Ruth was the oldest living Peace Corps volunteer. Her goal in life was to be kind and useful to others, and she succeeded daily on both counts. She will be greatly missed by her three children, 11 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and their families, as well as the hundreds of souls she touched throughout the world. A living memorial of Ruth's life was celebrated last August with friends and family. A graveside singing burial will be held at a later date this summer at Crystal Lake Twp. Cemetery.
