Sandra Kay (Stanton) Costigan Obituary

In loving memory of Sandra Kay (Stanton) Costigan, loving wife, sister, and mother. She was born to Harold Walter and Mary Ellen (Leeball) Sep. 1, 1946, in Muskegon, MI. They lived in Muskegon until Sandy was 4 years old and then moved the family to Thompsonville, MI where she later attended school in Benzie County. She spent her time helping her mom in the garden, playing with her little dog and making friends. When she left school she worked for a sewing factory putting zippers in coats.

Sandy met the love of her life, Walter Clio Costigan, in late 1964. They were married July 9, 1966, and moved to Flint, MI. Their little family soon grew as they welcomed a daughter and son on Feb. 7, 1967, and then another daughter on Nov. 6, 1968. While her spouse worked to support the family, Sandra kept the home fires burning for her little family. In 1970 they purchase a little house in Burton, MI.

She enjoyed baking for her family and making the children's clothes. She often would bundle up the children and meet Walt for breakfast at a diner, so that they could spend family time together before he went on to his second job.

In 1979, she went to work for a plastics company and later worked for Buick where she earned an award for helping to identify a problem on the line and creating a solution to resolve the problem.

It wasn't long before the children were grown and left home as children do. Walt retired and they bought a piece of property in Thompsonville, MI, where they began to build their retirement home. Sandra continued to work down state during the week for a few years to help Walt financially to build their new home. Every weekend she would travel to Thompsonville to spend time with Walt and do what she could to help. Once the house was completed, Sandra retired and they started their new life in their new home. They spent many wonderful years making friends, traveling to see family and the country and just enjoying time spent with each other.

On Oct. 24, 2023, she took a nap and quietly passed. She now resides in Heaven beside her beloved husband, Walt. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Walter Costigan; father, Harold Walter Stanton; mother, Mary Ellen (Leeball) Stanton; two brothers, James Harold Stanton and Ronnie Joe Stanton; sister, Ann Marie Stanton; three nephews, Stephen A.
