Traverse City, Mi - Sara Shelley Harkness, 38, passed away peacefully on August 29, 2025, after a brief but intense illness. She battled courageously and was surrounded by her family in the end.

She leaves behind her children, Remington and Sullivan Jones, her loving parents, Dan and Anka Harkness, her sister, Molly Pease (Adam Pease), her favorite nieces, Cora and Allison Pease, and her brother, Adam Harkness (Jillian Bogert).

Sara found her calling in life as a mother, and dedicated herself to raising kind, strong, independent young men. Her two twin boys, Remington (Remi) and Sullivan (Sully), 9, love the outdoors, and Sara took them on daily adventures all across Northern Michigan.

Sara attended Ferris State University, receiving a degree in social work, and devoted her professional career to the safety and wellbeing of kids in foster and adoptive care.

Sara was intelligent, empathetic, and compassionate, and she will be deeply missed by her family, her friends, and everyone who knew her. Her untimely passing leaves a significant hole in the community.

As a registered organ donor, Sara's final wish was honored and she gave the gift of sight and life to others in need.

A Celebration of Life will be held on September 13, 2025, from 3pm-6pm at the Harkness family home in Cedar, MI.
