Shirley was born in Manistee, Michigan.
Married 68 years (June 11, 1955) to surviving husband, Ervin Landis of Thompsonville, Michigan.
Together they have five children: Audrey (Landis) Lammle, Steven, Shirley (Landis) Ford, Ervin, Jr, and Ross; three grandchildren: Reese Delavan, Matthew, Abrahams, and Patric Landis; and 4 great-grandchildren: Gianna, Reese, Maeve, Destiny.
She and Ervin enjoyed square dancing, following The Old Fiddler's around the state and hosting a successful Old Fiddler's event in BENZIE County. They were active members of the local Grange Association in Honor, Michigan. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, crafts of all kinds.
A funny note that while they lived in Taylor, Michigan when first married, Shirley registered to attend cosmetology school to become a hairdresser...three times she re-entered the training program but pregnancies kept her from ever earning her certification.
She worked for Gwen Frostic, an American Naturalist Artist and print shop, supermarkets in BENZIE and Chums Corner's (near Traverse City), even an Avon Representative. Each time she went to work - she was on a mission for new furniture, a new car... Once she had met her required goals, most times she said farewell and came back home to all about family. She was a fun mom. To get solo time with one of her children, she would show up, unannounced, at school to take her/him out of school for an afternoon appointment that didn't exist, just to go shopping, lunch or ice cream. Mom, we trust your three brothers Robert, Lloyd, and Kenneth will be greeting you on the other side. We love you mom.
