Shirley Ann Twietmeyer O'Connor
Shirley O'Connor, of Fairfield Glade, Tennessee, formerly of Traverse City, went to be with our Lord in heaven on Feb. 15, 2020.
Shirley was born in Saginaw on July 29, 1929. She grew up in Saginaw, studying piano and organ at a very young age. Shirley went on to study piano at Michigan State University, where she obtained her Bachelor's in Music. She eventually obtained her Master's degree in Piano Performance from Central Michigan University.
As an accomplished pianist, Shirley played extensively throughout Michigan and Tennessee, where she eventually ended up living. She was a long-time music teacher in the public schools and taught private piano lessons to many students. She played piano and organ for numerous churches and church choirs over the years. Shirley was very active in the Music Teachers National Association, helping to start new local groups.
She was predeceased by her husband, Edward Twietmeyer, the father of her children, in 1995. She was also predeceased by her husband, Jack O'Connor, in 2019.
Shirley leaves behind four children, Greg (Rita) Twietmeyer, William (Barbara) Twietmeyer, Susan (Paul) MacAfee and John Twietmeyer; six grandchildren, and three great-grandsons.
