Traverse City, Michigan - Violet (Wolfe) Chambers, 91, our beloved mother, grandmother, friend and neighbor passed away on May 21, 2026 in the care of hospice and the compassionate, attentive skilled nursing staff at the Grand Traverse Pavilions.

Vi, as she was affectionately known, was born in 1934 to Bernice and John Wolfe in Snover, Michigan and was raised there with her two older brothers until she turned 15, moving then to Pontiac where she completed high school and met her beloved David. They married in 1954 and immediately started their family of three sons and four daughters. Dave and Vi moved to Walled Lake after the birth of their last child in 1964 where they finished raising their brood.

Vi shared her many talents of sewing, and crafting with her children. Her passion for fashion often shined with the clothing she made for them and the neighbor's children. She was skilled at upholstery too. She created a home of beauty and order on a shoestring budget.

Their acre lot was bordered with lilacs at her insistence. Her enthusiasm for gardening brought her great joy. The children had a yard filled with fruit trees, vegetables, and flowers to help her tend to. She kept them busy and rewarded them with outings at the park or beach. A rainy day picnic was never frowned upon.

Vi took a position at the infamous Machus Red Fox restaurant where she was employed for 28 years. A food critic once wrote about her as a "very efficient, personable, and gracious waitress, ready to help at all times...not to forget her very pleasant smile." She often was awarded employee of the year.

Violet retired to Traverse City where she quickly made new friends and the old ones followed to enjoy years of good food, great times, and countless adventures in the TC area. Her travels with friends took her all around the USA including Alaska and Hawaii, and on a very memorable trip to Italy.

Described by her friends as having a touch of malice without being a gossip; being a good listener who was easy to talk to; having a great sense of humor; living graciously; having a balanced approach to life; and liking things "just so".

Grandma Vi was blessed with ten grandsons, and eight great grandchildren. That's a lot of boys! Vi had an ability to calm their high energy with her easy and peaceful demeanor.

Violet is preceded in death by her husband David, son Cory, son-in-law Roger Bloom, brothers Duane and John Wolfe and countless friends that she kept honored with mementos in her home to keep them close to her heart.

Violet is survived by her children Sylvia Light (Donald Bowman), Carla Bloom, Clint Chambers, Jeff (Holly) Chambers, Sheila Wolfe, and Cynthia Watson. Additionally surviving are her dearest decades-long friends Carol Campbell, Edie Betzing, Rae Smith and Michele Parisien.

Violet was a three-time cancer survivor. She wore her pink ribbon like a badge of honor. She endured her treatments with great strength and dignity.

Per Violet's wishes, there will be no funeral.

Dearest Violet, spread your wings and float above the flowers. We all miss you dearly.
