Traverse City, Michigan - Wayne Andrew Pihl age 87 passed away peacefully in Traverse City, MI on January 11, 2026. Born in Manistee County, MI on November 30, 1938 and raised in Kaleva, MI he was loved by all and will be greatly missed. He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years Roseann Pihl and four children Tim, Marty, Joe and Kristen, respective spouses Shelly, Lori and his nine grandchildren, Rockwell, Megan, Thomas, Joseph, Troy, Logan, Jake, Nicole and Caroline and great granddaughter Annalise.

Wayne had an accomplished professional career beginning with Accounting studies at Davenport Business College in Grand Rapids, MI, an early ten year experience as an accountant before a career shift to Life Insurance, and a corresponding family relocation to Cincinnati, OH. He began a 30 year career as a successful Life Insurance Agent with the William T Earle's office of Mutual Benefit Life Insurance and attained a subsequent professional designation as a Chartered Life Underwriter.

Wayne raised a loving family in the Charter Oak neighborhood of Cincinnati, was a devout parishioner at St Vincent Ferrer, he enjoyed family barbecues, neighborhood dinner parties, playing summer softball, weekly bowling and coaching his children in their sports endeavors. He enjoyed summer vacations in MI, family reunions on the Jouppi Family Farm and was a longstanding President of the Jouppi Management Company. He was a lifelong fan of the Detroit Tigers, Detroit Lions, long-time season ticket holder of the Cincinnati Reds and enjoyed college basketball and avidly rooted for the University of Cincinnati Bearcat and Xavier University Musketeer basketball teams.

Following Wayne's children moving onto successful careers and professional relocation, Wayne and Roseann pursued an active retirement life sailing their boat "FinIrish" on Lake Erie, they enjoyed multiple European river cruises and spent many winters over three decades on their beloved Acapulco Bay with international friends and family. They subsequently relocated to Traverse City, MI in 2011 where they further enjoyed post retirement years with family, friends and neighbors.

Per Wayne's request, he would like family and friends to recall his life in loving memory. The family will be holding a private celebration of life at a future date and in lieu of a funeral service, donations can be made in his name to a local "meals on wheels" charity.
