William D. Baum Sr.
William Daniel Baum Sr., 74, of Kingsley, formerly of Elizabeth City, North Carolina, was a proud veteran of the National Guard.
Also known as Bill in the North and Frog in the South, he passed away Sept. 3, 2019 in his home while surrounded by his loved ones. He valiantly battled many years of four different types of cancer.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Cheryl (Rohl); son, William Daniel Baum Jr., of Sparta, and Neil Haycraft, of Kingsley; daughter by a previous marriage to Patricia Ann (Landers) Gibbs, of Elizabeth City, North Carolina, Gloria Ann Ingersoll and husband, Tony, of South Boardman. Surviving siblings are sister, Viola Scaff, of Elizabeth City, North Carolina; brothers, Johnny Ray, of New York, Charlie Wayne and Jackie Glenn Baum, of Elizabeth City, North Carolina; grandchildren, Dallas, Matthew, Ashley, Tyler Lee, Danielle, Tyler Joe and Breanna; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Hezekiah Daniel Baum and Mary John (Ferrell) Baum; and siblings, Mary Donie Kam, Hezekiah Jerome Baum, Roy Edward Baum, Brian Keith Baum and Gloria Ann Baum, all of Elizabeth City, North Carolina.
Bill was known for his woodworking skills, making several pieces for family and special friends, and also donating pieces to his granddaughters' school for auction fund raising. He was also very active with the Boy Scouts and was a Boy Scout leader.
His favorite things were fishing, hunting, camping, mushrooming, Petoskey stone creations and gardening.
Many thanks are extended to Munson Medical hospice, his daughter, Gloria, brother, Jackie, sisters-in-law, Beverly Ost and Patricia Schlimme in helping with his care the last weeks of his life. Thanks to all the family and friends who came to celebrate his life while he was still with us, and his friend, Ron, for helping with many things around the house and yard.
Bill's body was donated to medical research for cancer in hopes of finding a cure.

So sorry for your loss. Bill was a dear man with such a gentle spirit. We hold many treasured memories of wonderful times camping and playing cards till almost dawn. We were honored when we turned and saw Dan pushing Bill in his wheelchair at Pete's retirement party only 4 weeks ago. God bless the entire family and comfort you at this time of your loss. You are dearly loved.
